Innovation in Focus: NIM at IRENA Innovation Week 2025

Industrial decarbonisation is no longer optional — it is essential. And innovation is the key to making it happen.

At this year’s IRENA Innovation Week (IIW2025), the Net-Zero Industries Mission proudly contributed to the AFID Technology Innovation Showcase, hosted by the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) in collaboration with the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC).

The Showcase was officially opened with remarks by Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and Urban Peyker, Director of the Net-Zero Industries Mission. Luca Corradi, Chief Technology Officer of NZTC, introduced the innovation pitching session, setting the tone for a forward-looking and dynamic exchange.

Together, the speakers highlighted both the urgency and the opportunity of accelerating the deployment of clean technologies in hard-to-abate sectors. From bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (CCUS) to circularity solutions and green hydrogen production from seawater, the projects presented showed that scalable industrial decarbonisation is not a distant ambition — it is already within reach.

Winners of the 2025 Technology Innovation Showcase

  • Giovanna Massobrio, Snam S.p.A. – Bioenergy with CCUS and heat electrification
  • Pietrogiovanni Cerchier, 9-Tech – Photovoltaic panel recycling and circularity innovation
  • Frazer Ely, Latent Drive – Direct seawater-to-hydrogen electrolyser stack

The Showcase reaffirmed a powerful message: cross-sector collaboration and international partnerships are crucial for building a net-zero industrial future.

From innovation to implementation — the transition is underway.
